What inspired you to choose an apprenticeship as your next step?
I decided to choose an apprenticeship as I didn't feel like university was the right choice for me, however I still wanted to continue to learn new things and be educated further which is why an apprenticeship worked best for me. I felt like there was lots of information online about apprenticeships which helped me to clarify that this was the correct decision for me and what I wanted from my next steps.
"Although university is a great opportunity, I really wanted to gain some experience in a professional workplace whilst still learning."
What kinds of things do you get up to in your role? Any tasks you especially enjoy?
I help with the day to day running of programmes at Visionpath which can include communicating with schools in regards to outreach and delivery, leasing with clients in regards to their needs and updates on the programme, as well as assisting programme managers with any tasks they may need help with. I also update and brand our slides for outreach and events. I often attend events for added support too.
What’s been the standout highlight of your apprenticeship so far?
A highlight of my apprenticeship has been seeing the full cycle of programmes, and seeing the individual impact of all the steps that a programme involves, for example, getting to see apprentices hired from the work that we do in our programmes was really fulfilling and has been really inspiring to me in my role.
Have you come up against any challenges during your apprenticeship, and how did you navigate them?
A challenge when completing my apprenticeship has been learning how to balance my job with my apprenticeship work. As things pop up, it’s easy to put one to the side and delay working on it. To help to overcome this, I use my calendar to book out when my apprenticeship work needs to be completed and plan my other work around this to make sure that I am meeting deadlines in both my work, and apprenticeship.
What’s helped you feel supported during your apprenticeship?
Having a team that helps to coach and support me on tasks makes me feel more confident in my role. I know I am able to ask questions when necessary and get guidance from those around me which helps me to feel supported.
What moment made you realise you’d made the right decision choosing an apprenticeship?
Once I had settled into my role, started to complete tasks on my own, and be trusted to be able to do certain things, I felt more confident in my position and gained more independence which helped show me that the decision of choosing an apprenticeship was the right one.
"It allows me to gain experience and skills that I may not have been able to do so elsewhere."
