What inspired you to choose an apprenticeship as your next step?
I was inspired to choose an apprenticeship as I always knew I wanted to be able to actively take part in the world of insurance. University didn’t appeal to me, and the LMG Futures Academy showed me all the weird and wonderful aspects of insurance – not just your standard home and car insurance. It opened a whole new career path opportunity, and I knew that the skills I had obtained from my extracurriculars would align with insurance market, making me feel confident enough to apply for apprenticeships.
Is there anything in the job or industry you're especially keen to learn more about?
I’m very keen to learn about the intricacies of working with clients whilst also understanding and being able to overcome the challenges along with it.
What’s something you’re proud of so far?
I’m proud of my perseverance throughout the process of applying for apprenticeships. I faced many rejections but remaining positive was key and staying confident with the interviews and assessments made me understand what each company was looking for and now I’m working for a company that appreciates the skills and knowledge I can offer.
Did you face any challenges during your assessment or onboarding process?
For other companies I rarely reached the next stage which wasn’t a great feeling, but with Lockton, each interview process ran smoothly. However, after the assessment centre I was told I was through to the next part, but then I got a call saying they were cutting people and asked me to interview for a different team entirely, which was a shock and scary due to it being so close to my A–Levels and interviewing for a team I didn’t have much insight on, but in the end I got the original position I wanted!
What support have you received throughout your journey so far, and what’s made a difference?
The Early Careers Team at Lockton were incredibly supportive and helpful throughout the whole application process, making sure I understood every aspect and felt comfortable the whole time, as it was a stressful period. My brother was also incredibly supportive by helping me prepare with interview practice, perfecting my presentation ready for the assessment centre, and reassuring me the entire time.
What moment made you realise you’d made the right decision choosing an apprenticeship?
I knew I made the right decision when I instantly felt comfortable with my fellow apprentices and my team. Everyone was so welcoming and sociable making the whole transition from school to work feel quite seamless. All the apprentices could relate to one another, whilst all the new people I’m meeting within the insurance market are very understanding and more than happy to share their stories and advice, which is so reassuring as there is always someone to talk to.
