What inspired you to choose an apprenticeship as your next step?
I chose an apprenticeship because I knew university wasn’t the right path for me and I wanted to get straight into a role to start building experience. It was only when Visionpath came to my school that I realised how many opportunities there was within the insurance industry.
"Through the workshops and mentoring within the Futures Academy, I was able to build key skills gain hands on experience that helped me to stand out during interviews."
Is there anything in the job or industry you're especially keen to learn more about?
As an apprentice, I will have the opportunity to rotate around different classes of business and I’m really excited to see which area of the business I enjoy the most. During Visionpath’s Futures Academy, I was given a basic understanding of various different classes of business which has put me a step ahead of my peers and has provided me a deeper level of knowledge, allowing me to feel more confident within my role.
What’s something you’re proud of so far?
One thing I’m proud of so far is getting through the competitive application process while balancing many priorities in Year 13. It was difficult at times managing school, work, exams, and apprenticeship applications especially with tough competition. However, being provided the opportunity through Visionpath to partake in mock interview sessions helped me feel more confident and organised as well as making a big difference when it came to knowing how to present myself during real interviews. Looking back now, I’m proud that I stayed focused, pushed through the pressure, and secured an apprenticeship I’m excited about.
Did you face any challenges during your assessment or onboarding process?
One of the main challenges I faced during the assessment process was managing nerves as well as the uncertainty that came with each stage. With so many applications to prepare for and unexpected tasks, I felt overwhelmed at times. The interview tips, practice tasks, and advice on how to structure my answers helped me to remain calm under pressure and confident that I would have a strong response to interview questions I was faced with.
"The support and guidance Visionpath provided me was invaluable for my confidence."
What support have you received throughout your journey so far, and what’s made a difference?
I’m grateful that I can say I have had a lot of support throughout my journey so far which has helped me to settle into my apprenticeship. I’m lucky that I have a manager that is very supportive and helpful that spends lots of time with me explaining and answering my countless questions. My parents have also played a vital role in encouraging me to stay motivated and persistent throughout my journey and tolerated me as I made them ask me interview questions over and over again. Visionpath helped to prepare me and guide me through the application process, so I knew what to expect before applications began. Moreover, I knew that because of the workshops I had been part of, I had built key skills that employers were looking for.
What moment made you realise you’d made the right decision choosing an apprenticeship?
I knew I had made the right choice choosing an apprenticeship when I was given opportunities to contribute to my team early on alongside my learning. I know that by going to university, I would only have been delaying my path, and through my role, I have been provided invaluable real-world experience that has allowed me to develop personally and professionally. During workshops with apprentices at back when I was a student, I was provided an insight into the lifestyle that they had, and this helped me to realise what I wanted for myself.
"Now I’m in their position, I am confident I have made the right choice for myself and my future."
